Deepak Khanchi
Owner
Hailing from a farming family in India, Deepak grew up with strong values of hard work, hospitality, and community. In 2012, at just 18 years old, he moved to Canada to pursue his education and new opportunities, bringing with him a deep appreciation for authentic Indian flavours and culture.
In 2017, Deepak transformed his passion into reality by opening Desi Turka Indian Cuisine in Burnaby. The restaurant quickly became a local favourite, celebrated for its genuine Indian dishes and warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Building on that success and driven by a vision to offer a more modern dining experience, Deepak later founded Desi Indian Lounge in Vancouver. The restaurant represents the next chapter in his culinary journey — where tradition meets innovation, and guests can savour the richness of Indian cuisine in a contemporary, stylish setting.
Through every plate and every experience, Deepak continues to share the heart and soul of India with the people of Vancouver.

An accomplished passionate operational leader with over 8 years of successful experience in luxury hotels in Dubai with Marriott Hotels specializing in food and beverage operations. Adaptable at identifying and eliminating inefficiencies, reducing costs, and maintaining a positive and productive work environment. Being able to promptly analyze and adapt to changing business demands.

Bal Ajagaonkar
Executive Chef
Born and raised in the coastal town of Malvan in western India, Executive Chef Bal Ajgaonkar developed a passion for cooking at an early age, inspired by the flavors and traditions of his mother’s kitchen. After completing his graduation in Hotel Management Catering Technology and Tourism Management. His culinary journey has led him through several prestigious five-star hotels, where he has earned numerous accolades for his exceptional skills.
Throughout his career, Chef Bal has had the privilege of sharing kitchen space with a variety of celebrity chefs and Michelin star talents, further enriching his culinary expertise. Now based in Canada, he has perfected the art of
Curating each dish into a masterpiece by using locally available ingredients and skillfully pairing them with ethnic spices. This unique approach creates a delightful harmony of flavors that delivers a sense of contentment and satisfaction.
Chef Bal currently leading one of the best kitchens in the lower mainland at Desi Lounge, where every dish is not only crafted with precision but also garnished with the crucial ingredients of love and care.
When he isn’t tending to the stove or artfully plating dishes, Bal enjoys traveling, indulging in photography, and spending quality time with his family.
